How to install TWRP and ROOT Xiaomi andoid Phone

TWRP (Team Win Recovery Project) is an open source software useful for Android users to help repair or install Android OS. open source

What are the benefits and features of TWRP?

Installing Custom ROMs, Kernels, Plugins, GApps, Fix 4G, SuperSU, Magisk and other mods;
Backup/Restore Process of System, Boot, User Data, IMEI, Modem, Sensor Section, Cache, Dalvik Cache to Internal Memory;
Can be used to transfer files via MTP, file manager and terminal emulator;
As well as many other uses.

The TWRP backup/restore process works with "nandroid" backups, so the backups you get are exactly the same as the previously used ROM.

Please read this before installing TWRP. !

Bootloader, Rooting, Custom ROM installation may void warranty;

1. Xiaomi TWRP Image File

To install TWRP, you only need the TWRP image file (.img) according to your Xiaomi type.

2. How to install TWRP

Requirements before installing TWRP:

Make sure your Xiaomi battery is fully charged or at least 50% charged;
computers/laptops with Windows 7 or newer operating system;
Original or good quality USB cable to connect Xiaomi to computer/laptop;
USB debugging and OEM unlocking enabled;
Xiaomi Unlocked Bootloader.
Remember to backup important data first if Phone boot or TWRP asks for a password.

Required materials:

Install ADB-Fasboot-And-Driver-v1.4.3.zip - 8.89MB (read here how to install it, works like a fastboot command and automatically goes into fastboot mode);
Install ADB.Driver.Installer.v2.0 - 11 MB (read how to install it here, useful as ADB interface driver and bootloader interface);
Rename the TWRP image file from above to twrp.img;

Once you have met the requirements and uploaded all the above materials, please follow the instructions below.

Steps:

1.Connect Xiaomi to PC or laptop with original or good quality USB cable.
2. Place the renamed TWRP file twrp.img in c:/adb;

Once done press the SHIFT button + Right-click an empty area, and then select Open a command window here.

4. Make sure that the device is connected (connected) by entering the command:

adb devices

5. If a random code (serial number) is displayed, it means that the mobile phone is correctly connected ADB -status;
6. If it looks like this on the HP screen:

.. click OK.

7. Then type the command:

adb reboot bootloader

8. Xiaomi will automatically reboot and enter fastboot mode;

9. Make sure it is connected in fastboot mode by typing:

fastboot devices

10. If a random code (serial number) appears, it means the device is properly connected to the computer or in fastboot. mode on the laptop.

11. Next, type the command:

fastboot flash recovery twrp.img

This command will install TWRP.

12. Wait until the process is finished and ends with marked words.

At this point, TWRP installation is complete.

After TWRP is installed, try to enter TWRP immediately by pressing the Power + Vol Up button for a while until it enters TWRP as follows:

Install TWRP for all types of xiaomi devices

Install after login, select Mount and uncheck "Mount system partition . read-only" so that TWRP doesn't disappear after rebooting or installing a ROM.

Up to this stage, installation of TWRP recovery is complete.

3. Disable DM-Verity

Several recent Xiaomi releases already use the DM-Verity feature. This means that if the recovery partition (TWRP installation) is modified, the device will not boot (bootloop) because this feature prevents it.

Therefore, use the material below to solve it:

no-verity-opt-encrypt-6.0.zip - 657 KB (to avoid booting, put it in internal memory without extracting it);

Steps:

1. Copy file no-verity-opt-encrypt-6.0.zip to internal storage in TWRP mode;
2. Then select Install and tap the no-verity-opt-encrypt-6.0.zip file you copied earlier.

3. Then Swipe "Swipe to Confirm Flash".
4. Wait for the installation to finish with "...done".
5. If so, select Reboot System.

In TWRP mode you can copy files to internal storage because TWRP already supports MTP (Media Transfer Protocol).

4. ROOT Step

Root is optional, it can be done or not depending on needs. Read the pros and cons of a rooted mobile here.
If you want to root, flash TWRP again and copy the file :

Magisk-v16.0.zip - 5 MB | You can check the latest Magisk components here (install Magisk and root, don't unzip and put them in internal storage);

Steps:

1. Choose Install;

2. Next, select the Magisk-v16.0.zip file you copied earlier to internal storage;
3. Swipe right under "Swipe to Confirm Flash";

4. Wait for the process to finish and it will be marked as "done";
5. Then reboot system.
After entering the home screen, the Magisk icon appears as follows.

Reasons for TWRP Installation Failure

There are many cases where the TWRP installation process fails under certain circumstances. This could be due to several things, I will try to go through them one by one.

1. Error: "Unable/cannot to load twrp.img"
Many people wonder why the error message "cannot load twrp.img" appears when installing TWRP.

This is because the adb program cannot find the executable file twrp.img.

Reason:

Placed twrp.img in wrong directory; or
Not renamed to twrp.img; or
You accidentally renamed this file to twrp.img.img (this happens often).

So it's easy, just change the TWRP installation command to:

fastboot flash recovery twrp.img.img

2. Enter TWRP (Keep Mi Recovery)

does not work TWRP is ready without errors, it turns out that TWRP is not installed and it still going to Mi Recovery.

If this happens, enter fastboot again and repeat the flashing command as follows.

fastboot flash recovery twrp.img

.. then continue

fastboot boot twrp.img master

Xiaomi automatically enters TWRP Recovery.

3. TWRP asks for password
